Brocton, NY –
Creating a Library Where Imagination Can Take Root
For Brocton Central School District, the goal was more than creating a beautiful school library feature. It was about building a place where students could feel a sense of wonder the moment they entered the room.
International Greenscapes™, through the combined artistry of NatureMaker® and Treescapes®, created a custom Steel Art Oak environment designed specifically for the school’s library space. The installation includes a walk-through oak tree, a corner “nook” oak tree, and a custom oak trunk book-drop feature — each crafted to bring storytelling, discovery, and nature-inspired design into the student experience.
The main walk-through oak was designed with two openings in the trunk, allowing students to move through the tree as part of the space itself. A second corner oak creates a more intimate nook, offering a natural focal point for reading, gathering, and quiet exploration. Together, the trees help transform the library from a functional room into an immersive environment.
For educational spaces, biophilic design has a unique emotional power. It can soften architecture, invite curiosity, and create memorable moments that support connection and learning. In this project, the oak trees do more than decorate the library — they help define it.
The result is a space where craftsmanship meets imagination, and where students are invited to read, gather, dream, and explore beneath the canopy.
