Botanical Design

at Every Scale

VERMILLION ROUNDABOUT

ONE CAPABILITY, FIVE VERY DIFFERENT ROOMS.

Scale is the quiet variable in botanical design. A single sculptural tree can hold a dining room together. A row of eight exterior arrangements can change how a restaurant reads from fifty feet away. Four date palms can turn a soaring interior into somewhere people remember.

This quarter, our teams at Treescapes®, NatureMaker® and Plantworks® worked at all three of those scales — and then applied the same craft to one of the most demanding environments we design for: senior living and memory care.

Different sizes, different specifications, one standard of craft.

JOEY

LA JOLLA

TREESCAPES | SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA

AN OLIVE TREE BUILT AS ARCHITECTURE, NOT DECORATION

A dramatic Mediterranean olive tree brings scale, warmth, and a strong sense of place to JOEY’s La Jolla
restaurant. Treescapes created the approximately 9’7″ tree with an expansive, asymmetrical canopy measuring
roughly 17′ x 14′ at its widest point.

Built around a steel inner core and finished with hand-detailed bark, branching, and UV-rated foliage, the tree was
designed as a permanent architectural feature rather than simply an accent. The result: a bold botanical
centerpiece integrated seamlessly into the restaurant environment.

“Super happy with how it turned out!”

BEAR BROOK

VALLEY

NATUREMAKER | FREDON TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY

A 16-FOOT OLIVE TREE AT THE HEART OF THE REMODEL

As part of a major venue-wide remodel, Bear Brook Valley introduced a dramatic 16-foot Steel Art Olive Tree as a
centerpiece in its main reception space. Designed for Balongue Design Inc., the tree brings sculptural scale,
warmth, and a strong biophilic presence to this upscale-rustic wedding venue.

NatureMaker created the custom olive tree with a 9-foot canopy, 7-foot foliage clearance, and a highly detailed
sculpted trunk that branches into two major vertical trunks. Built around a steel structure and mounted to a
concealed base plate, the installation was engineered to feel fully integrated into the architecture rather than
added as décor.

DEL AMO

CONSTRUCTION

TREESCAPES | SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

WHEN BOTANICAL DESIGN HAS TO PERFORM AT ARCHITECTURAL SCALE

For a Del Amo Construction project, Treescapes created four custom Date Palms ranging from approximately 17
to 30 feet tall, transforming a soaring interior into a dramatic, immersive environment.

Each palm was engineered around a structural inner core with custom trunk detailing and broad canopies
proportioned to the surrounding architecture. Together, the grouping creates the feeling of a mature indoor palm
grove while providing the permanence and predictability required for a commercial environment.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS

“They really did turn out beautiful. SMES is beyond thrilled.”

PLANTWORKS | LAS VEGAS

BRINGING THE LAS VEGAS EXPERIENCE TO LIFE

Christian Guevara is one of the people helping turn design ideas into finished botanical environments at
Plantworks — and increasingly helping shape the client experience in Las Vegas.
Based in Las Vegas, Christian brings hands-on knowledge of Plantworks and its work to a role that connects
craftsmanship, production, installation, and the presentation of what International Greenscapes can do. His
experience with Plantworks and the Las Vegas market makes him a natural leader for the next evolution of
the showroom.

BIOPHILIC DESIGN UPDATE

Souderton Mennonite Homes — Souderton, PA

DESIGNING FOR SENIOR LIVING

Where nature, safety, and well-being meet

In senior living and memory care, botanical design has to do more than look beautiful. It has to support residents,
work within demanding interiors, preserve clear pathways and sightlines, and meet stringent fire and lifesafety requirements.

Artificial and fabricated botanicals make it possible to introduce the visual connection to nature into areas
where live plants often struggle — from low-light corridors and dining areas to double-height lobbies and
indoor streetscapes.

SMARTER BOTANICAL DESIGN CAN HELP

NATURE WHERE RESIDENTS NEED IT MOST

Research cited in our new Senior Living guide reinforces an important idea: simply seeing greenery can have
value for residents, including people living with dementia. That makes interior biophilic design especially important
for residents who may have limited opportunities to spend time outdoors.

Our new portfolio exploring biophilic environments for Senior Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care.
